Carolyn Dyer, President
Carolyn Dyer recently retired from ProQuest, where she served as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Content Operations.
She has worked with printed information in a multitude of facets throughout her career. Carolyn brings to our organization a great
passion and energy for spreading the word about adult literacy.
Jerry Nordblom, Vice President
Jerry Nordblom recently retired from Pfizer where he was a bioanalytical
chemist. He is currently a tutor for Washtenaw Literacy, working with two
English as a Second Language learners. Jerry is also actively involved
with Michigan Reachout, a math and science mentoring program for students in
the Ann Arbor Schools.
Mark Grobosky, Treasurer
Mark Grobosky is a Private Banking Officer at Ann Arbor Commerce Bank. He has over 19 years of banking experience in Washtenaw County with expertise in private banking, personal lending, deposit services and branch management. His personal philosophy mirrors that of Ann Arbor Commerce Bank: to take care of the client. He brings this to Washtenaw Literacy and his participation on the Board and Finance Committee.
Erin Howarth, Secretary
Erin Howarth and her husband run Wilderness Adventure Books, a small regional publishing company.
Erin joined Washtenaw Literacy in 1999 as a basic literacy tutor and an office volunteer.
She has served as a Mentor and a member of the Program Committee since 2000.
John Edwards
John Edwards is President and COO of Edwards Brothers, Inc. He has
encouraged employees to improve their literacy skills on the job through
Washtenaw Literacy's Global Workforce program.
Tonya Gietzen
Tonya Gietzen is Vice President of Commercial Banking at Fifth Third Bank in Ann Arbor.
She is involved in numerous community organizations and has served on Washtenaw Literacy's Board of Directors since 2001.
Tonya is passionate about helping people learn to read.
Ann Gladwin
Ann Gladwin is Resource Specialist at NEW, a management support organization for nonprofits.
She has tutored one-on-one for Washtenaw Literacy in the basic literacy program and is currently tutoring an ESL learner.
Ann has also been a mentor to other tutors and is pleased to join the board and chair the Development Committee.
Judy Nantau
Judy L. Nantau is a Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes in language and literacy. She is employed as the Children¹s Services Manager at the University Center for the Development of Language and Literacy at the
University of Michigan. Prior to that, she was a practicing
speech-language pathologist in the public schools. She also was a Senior Consultant for Educational Services with Cognitive Concepts (Earobics), and an Assistant Professor at Valparaiso University. Judy received her graduate degree from Western Michigan University.
Robbie O'Brien
Robbie O'Brien has been in the financial services industry since 1983 and is currently a Sr. VP for Hilliard Lyons, Inc.
She is a Chartered Wealth Advisor and has a Securities Industry Institute degree from the Wharton School in PA and a Business degree from California State University.
She serves on the Board of Trustees for Cleary University and was elected as Chair of their Board in 2001, and just accepted another two-year nomination for Trustee in Jan. 2006.
Community service has been a major focus for her, and Robbie has been involved with Girls on the Run, The Delonis Center, Wild Swan Theatre, Avalon Housing,
Financial Advisor for the Ann Arbor Women's City Club Endowment Fund and for Cleary University, along with serving on various committees for Hands on Museum fundraising, United Way,
Zonta International and the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation.
Sherry Pringle
Sherry Pringle works at Domino's Pizza World Resource Center in Communications and Investor Realtions as a Specialist - Executive Administration. Prior to this she worked for 11 years at Borders Group as the Corporate Affairs Administrator working closely with with local nonprofit organizations including Washtenaw Literacy. Sherry has attended every World in a Basket auction since its conception and has been a committee member for the past six years and Basket co-chair for two of those years. The love of reading was passed down from her parents who took her to the bookmobile in the rural area where she grew up.
Mary Jean Raab
Mary Jean is former executive vice president for Bill Knapp's Restaurant and was a senior vice president, of Borders Group Incorporated, and a member of the executive committee. She has experience in business consulting for retail and service organizations, providing service in marketing, business evaluation and planning, and product development. She has been directly responsible for corporate marketing, administration, human resources, R&D, IT, and strategic planning. Some of her larger recent clients include, Inter Active Corporation, Starbucks, Dominos Pizza, and McGraw-Hill Companies. Locally, Mary Jean is on the board of directors of Bearclaw Coffee Company and an advisor to the founders and owners. She is also on the board of several not for profit organizations, including Senior Citizen's Housing of Ann Arbor, Lurie Terrace Senior Community, honorarium staff liaison USA Hockey National Team Development Program, and president of Bethlehem Church.
Nicola Rooney
Nicola Rooney is the proprietor of the Nicola's Books bookstore in Ann Arbor, located on Jackson Rd. She
generously donates her time and energy toward advancing Washtenaw
Literacy's cause. She helps promote volunteer tutor recruitment
through advertising and by hosting volunteer orientations
at her store.
Al Solvay
Al has 20 years of experience in education and training for Ford Motor Company, most recently as Program Manager of Technical Training at Ford Education, Training and Development Center.
He has recently retired and is very involved in the community. He serves on the Board of Advisors for M-Tech and is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for The Scrap Box.
Al is trained as both a basic literacy and an English as a second language tutor. He tutors both one-on-one and at Washtenaw Literacy's ESL conversation groups.
Al also chairs Washtenaw Litearcy's Marketing Committee.
Judy Wojnowski
Judy Wojnowski is recently retired from Washtenaw Community College, where she served as Vice President, Administration and Finance.
Judy first became interested in Washtenaw Literacy through her work with Project Genesis at Washtenaw Community College where she is a reading coach.
She firmly believes that reading is the most important life skill and has worked to strengthen the ties between Washtenaw Literacy and the college.
